Piano lessons are taught by Cynthia, who has 30 years of experience and a Master's Degree in Education. Each class will typically have 4-8 students and be taught on a combination of analog and digital pianos. Students must have a piano to practice on at home; either type is fine. Students need to order their books in advance and bring them to the first class.
Chords Class 1 uses two books:
-
Meridee Winters Chord Crash Course Book 1
-
Easy Piano Lead Sheets Christmas Edition Level 1
This class covers arpeggios, power chords, major and minor chords, lead sheets, and four chord songs. By the end, students will be able to play about 30 Christmas songs with a variety of chord techniques.
Students must have a little experience reading music or be age 12 and up.
Chords Class 2 uses one book:
-
Meridee Winters Chord Crash Course Book 2
-
Students must also bring in 7-8 songs of their own choosing, either as a lead sheet or as a chord chart; we will discuss options at the first class.
This class will briefly review chord basics from class 1, then cover inversions, intervals, sus chords, octaves, sevenths, and twelve bar blues progressions.
Students must have already passed Chords Class 1 or already play an instrument at level 2 or above; if in doubt, start with Chords Class 1.
Each class will have 8 sessions, on Tuesdays and Thursdays in August. If there is an emergency with the instructor, a session may covered by a backup instructor, or rescheduled for the first Tuesday and/or Thursday in September.
These classes are best attended live so students can learn from each other, but if the student will be out of town, they can participate online (they must inform the instructor at least one hour in advance so that the videoconference feature can be set up).
